Portland Head Light

Fort Williams Park stood with guns protecting Portland Harbor until it was officially closed in 1963. Located off Route 77 (Shore Road) the fort was taken over by the town of Cape Elizabeth which maintains the property for all to enjoy. Inside of Fort Williams is the road that leads to one of the most picturesque light houses on the East coast, Portland Head Light. This light house was commissioned in 1790 by George Washington himself.
